The fourth chapter of L'Ordre de la Toison d'Or, 1435

They are not included here.

1047 Le Roy d Arragon

dor a iij paulx de gueulles

Or three pallets gules

Pedro III, King of Aragón, who died in 1285, bears these arms in Walford's Roll, C9 & The Camden Roll, D6.

These are the arms of the Counts of Barcelona who acquired Aragón by the marriage of Raymond Berengar IV, died 1173, to Petronella, heir to the throne of Aragón.

Barcelona usually bears four pallets, but there are examples of paly of six, and with reversed tinctures.

See Nos 1049, 1051 1052 & 1053, below.

1052 Conte de Roussillon Conte de Ponsardon

Or four pallets gules

Conte de Roussillon

Although the arms are not blazoned, the traditional arms of Roussillon are these. It is possible that the copyist intended to repeat the blazon of the previous coat.

1053 Le Daulphain de Geronne

Duc de Montblanc

This is the first example of the partition per saltire, which is peculiar to Spanish heraldry.

It is worth noting here that from the beginning, heraldry in Spain used partition lines, including quarterly. It is usually claimed that this was a later development.

Jehan Daigne, in No 122, bears sable seven lozenges argent.

I cannot be sure that this the Daigne referred to above.

1060 Le Conte Raimont de Moncade

de gueulles a vij besans dor party en pal

Gules eight bezants 2,2,2,2

Comte de Moncada

Although the blazon gives seven bezants, later versions show at least eight. The number has to be even in order to place them in pale.
