Introduction to Foster's Shields

Foster's Shields

1-50

1 Earl of Albemarle    Gules a cross patonce vair Thomas de Forz, in C, was the son of Guillaume, who also appears in MP, and was dead by 1269. His sister and heir, Aveline, married Edmund, Earl of Lancaster. I believe that many of the different forms of cross are due to artist error. For example, this coat is blazoned paty in other versions of B, and is so painted by Matthew Paris.
